What is Panch Kedar?

The word Kedar refers to Lord Shiva, and Panch means five. According to legends from the Mahabharata, the Pandavas, after the Kurukshetra war, wanted to seek forgiveness from Lord Shiva. But Shiva, avoiding them, disguised himself and disappeared into the Himalayas.

In this process, his body appeared in five different places, which later became the five Kedars:

  1. Kedarnath โ€“ The hump of Lord Shiva
  2. Madhmaheshwar โ€“ The navel of Lord Shiva
  3. Tungnath โ€“ The arms of Lord Shiva
  4. Rudranath โ€“ The face of Lord Shiva
  5. Kalpeshwar โ€“ The matted hair of Lord Shiva

Together, these form the Panch Kedar Yatra, a rare combination of trekking adventure and spiritual journey.
