Chandrashila Trek – A Journey That Stays in the Heart
There are some places in life that don’t just show you mountains and valleys, they show you yourself. For me, Chandrashila Trek was one of those. Even today, when I close my eyes, I can feel that cold mountain wind on my face, the smell of pine forests, and the sound of temple bells echoing in the silence of nature.
The journey started with excitement, a little nervousness, and a heart full of dreams. From the very beginning, I knew this wasn’t just a trek, it was going to be an experience I would remember forever.
The Road to Sari Village
We began from Haridwar in the dark hours of morning, when the whole world was asleep but our hearts were wide awake. Slowly, as the road climbed up and twisted around the hills, the Ganga kept flowing with us, like an old friend. Small tea shops, hanging bridges, colorful houses clinging to the hillsides—it felt like I was entering another world.
By the time we reached Sari village, the sun was playing hide and seek with the clouds. Children ran around smiling, villagers greeted us with warmth, and in that moment, I felt how simple happiness can be. Sari is where the trek begins, but it already felt like a home.
The Magical Lake – Deoriatal
From Sari, the trail winds up through rhododendron and oak forests. Every step was like a new painting—birds chirping, the air so fresh it could heal your tiredness, and trees that looked as if they had been guarding the mountains for centuries.
And then suddenly, after a few hours, Deoriatal appeared like a secret jewel. A quiet lake surrounded by tall trees, reflecting the mighty Chaukhamba peak in its still waters. I had read about it before, but seeing it with my own eyes was a different story. The reflection looked so real, as if the mountain had bent down to admire itself. Sitting by the lake, I felt the world pause.
The Climb to Tungnath
The next morning, our path led us to Tungnath, the highest Shiva temple in the world. The trail was steep, and my legs kept complaining, but the sight of prayer flags fluttering in the cold wind pulled me forward. Every corner showed us more and more snow peaks.
When I finally saw the temple, small yet standing so proudly at that height, it touched me deeply. People were ringing the bells, offering prayers, and even though clouds were gathering, the place glowed with peace. I bowed my head and felt a strange calm inside me.
The Final Stretch – Chandrashila Summit
From Tungnath, the path to Chandrashila summit began. It was the hardest part, but also the most rewarding. The wind was strong, the rocks were sharp, and at times, I questioned myself—“Will I be able to do it?” But with every breath, I pushed forward.
And then… I was there.
Standing on the summit of Chandrashila, I was surrounded by the grand Himalayas—Nanda Devi, Trishul, Kedar, Chaukhamba—all standing like mighty guardians of time. The view was endless, the silence was powerful, and tears just rolled down without me knowing why. It felt like I was not just on top of a mountain, but closer to something much greater—maybe to God, maybe to my own soul.
Why Chandrashila is More Than Just a Trek
When people ask me about Chandrashila, I don’t just tell them about the altitude or the route. I tell them about the feeling—the way the forests hug you, the lake makes you dream, the temple fills you with faith, and the summit teaches you humility.
It is not just a trek—it is a story. A story where you meet strangers who become friends, where you fight your limits and win, where you discover that the world is huge but your heart can hold all of it.
