A Family Trip to Nainital That Felt Like Home – Our Real Travel Story
A Family Tour to Nainital
Some family trips are remembered for the places we visit. Others stay with us because of the people we meet, the food we enjoy, and the little moments we share together. Our July family trip to Bhimtal and Nainital was one of those journeys.
The tour was organized by Travelophila, and from our early-morning departure from Gurgaon to our final day in the Kumaon hills, everything was arranged to keep the journey comfortable and relaxed.
Starting Our Journey from Gurgaon
Our family adventure began at around 5:00 AM from Gurgaon. Our driver, Naveen, arrived with an Innova for the journey to Uttarakhand.
Starting early turned out to be a good decision. We escaped much of the city traffic and had plenty of time for breaks along the way.
Naveen knew the route well and suggested a suitable place for our midway stop. Instead of worrying about where to stop, where to eat, or which road would be more comfortable, we could simply enjoy the journey as a family.
As the busy roads gradually gave way to the green hills of Uttarakhand, it finally started feeling like a holiday.
A Warm Welcome at Himnandi Homestay, Bhimtal
Our stay in Bhimtal was at Himnandi Homestay.
What made the stay memorable wasn’t just the location. It was the personal care we received there.
The homestay owner, Mr. Trilok Adhikari, welcomed us warmly. He is a humble and kind person, and his hospitality made the property feel less like a commercial hotel and more like a peaceful home in the hills.
That personal connection became one of our favourite parts of the trip.
The Food We Still Remember
Then there was Prakash Joshi, the homestay chef and caretaker.
Food during a family holiday can make a huge difference, particularly after spending the day sightseeing. Prakash Ji prepared meals with genuine care and served us some wonderful local Kumaoni dishes.
The food was simple, fresh and full of local flavours. More importantly, everything was cooked and served with warmth.
Rather than feeling like we were simply ordering dinner at a hotel, it felt closer to enjoying a home-cooked meal prepared especially for the family.
Exploring Bhimtal
Bhimtal gave us the slower pace we were looking for.
We spent time around the beautiful Bhimtal Lake, walked through the local market, explored the surrounding area and simply enjoyed being together away from our everyday routine.
One of the more adventurous experiences was paragliding in Bhimtal.
Seeing the hills and valley from above was completely different from exploring them by road. It added a little adventure to what was otherwise a peaceful family holiday.
Our Day in Nainital
No trip to this part of Kumaon feels complete without visiting Nainital.
Our Nainital sightseeing day brought a different atmosphere. The town was lively, the lake was beautiful, and there was plenty for the whole family to enjoy.
We went boating on Naini Lake, spent time exploring the town and enjoyed shopping in the local markets. We also tried different local foods and snacks, which became another small but enjoyable part of the experience.
Walking together beside the lake, stopping for food and browsing the shops gave us time to enjoy Nainital without turning the day into a rushed sightseeing checklist.
The People Made the Journey Special
Looking back, the beautiful lakes and mountains were only one part of this family trip.
Naveen, our driver, helped make the road journey comfortable and guided us with his local experience.
Prakash Joshi looked after us at the homestay and prepared delicious local meals with care.
Mr. Trilok Adhikari welcomed our family to Himnandi Homestay with genuine warmth and humility.
And behind the arrangements was Shubhank Maithani of Travelophila, who coordinated the tour and took care of the arrangements throughout the journey.
It was this combination of local people, personal attention and thoughtful planning that made the holiday feel different.
More Than Just a Nainital Tour
We returned from the trip with photographs of lakes, hills, boating and paragliding. But some of our strongest memories were much simpler—the early morning drive from Gurgaon, conversations during the journey, freshly prepared food at the homestay, evenings in Bhimtal and time spent together beside Naini Lake.
For us, Bhimtal and Nainital weren’t simply destinations on an itinerary. They became part of a family memory.
And sometimes, that is exactly what a good family holiday should be.
