Every Family Wants a Peaceful Holiday, Not Just Another Tour

Every family has a different idea of a perfect holiday. Some travellers want to cover as many places as possible, while others simply want to spend quality time together without rushing from one destination to another.

When Divya Ma’am contacted us for a short Kumaon trip, her requirement was very clear. Their family of six adults was arriving at Kathgodam by train and wanted a comfortable three-day journey where they could visit Kainchi Dham, Mukteshwar and Nainital without spending most of their time sitting in traffic.

Instead of sharing a fixed itinerary immediately, we first understood how they preferred to travel. They wanted comfortable accommodation, a clean private vehicle, local guidance and enough free time to actually enjoy the mountains rather than constantly changing hotels.

This is exactly how we plan every journey at Travelophila. Rather than following a standard schedule, we customise each itinerary according to the guests, the season and the local road conditions.

This blog is not a promotional article. It is a real story from one of our family’s journeys through Kumaon, sharing what worked well, the places they explored and why a few local decisions made their trip much more enjoyable.

Why We Suggested Staying in Bhimtal Instead of Nainital

One of the first suggestions we made to Divya Ma’am was something many travellers don’t expect—we recommended staying in Bhimtal instead of Nainital.

At first, this surprised the family because most visitors naturally look for hotels in Nainital. However, after explaining the advantages, they happily agreed.

During weekends and holiday seasons, Nainital often experiences heavy traffic, limited parking and crowded market areas. Guests can spend a significant amount of time simply entering or leaving the town. Since their trip was only three days long, we wanted them to spend their time exploring beautiful places instead of waiting in traffic.

Bhimtal offered exactly what they were looking for. Located just a comfortable drive away, it provides a quieter atmosphere, scenic lake views and much easier access to both Kainchi Dham and Mukteshwar. Every morning could begin peacefully, without the rush that is common in busy hill stations.

For travellers planning a similar Kumaon holiday, choosing the right stay location can completely change the overall experience. Looking back after completing the journey, staying in Bhimtal proved to be one of the best decisions of the trip.

Meet the Local Team Behind Their Journey

A good itinerary is important, but the people who accompany you during the journey often make the biggest difference.

For Divya Ma’am’s family, their journey was handled by our local Kumaoni driver, Mr. Ashutosh Pant, who has been driving on the mountain roads of the Kumaon region for years.

Being a local, he knew much more than just the roads. Throughout the journey, he suggested peaceful viewpoints, local tea stops and the best timings to visit popular places before the crowds arrived. Small suggestions like these helped the family enjoy every destination at a relaxed pace.

Mountain driving requires patience, experience and an understanding of changing weather conditions. Whether it was navigating the winding roads towards Mukteshwar or planning the departure time for Kainchi Dham, his local knowledge helped the journey remain comfortable throughout.

Many guests later tell us that a friendly local driver becomes part of their travel memories, and this trip was no different.

Where They Stayed – A Peaceful Experience at Himnandi Homestay, Bhimtal

Choosing the right accommodation is just as important as planning the route. For this journey, we selected Himnandi Homestay in Saket Colony, Bhimtal—a place we often recommend to families looking for peace, comfort and genuine local hospitality.

Unlike crowded hotels located along busy roads, this private villa is situated in a calm residential area overlooking the surrounding hills. The peaceful atmosphere allowed the family to truly relax after each day of sightseeing.

The property is managed by Mr. Prakash Joshi, a local Kumaoni host who warmly welcomes every guest. His attention to detail, cleanliness and hospitality creates an environment that feels more like staying with family than checking into a commercial hotel.

One of the highlights of the stay was the freshly prepared home-style meals. After spending the day exploring the hills, enjoying simple and delicious Kumaoni hospitality around the dining table became one of the family’s favourite memories of the trip.

The spacious rooms, mountain views, peaceful surroundings and personalised care made Himnandi Homestay an ideal base for exploring Bhimtal, Kainchi Dham, Mukteshwar and Nainital without changing hotels every day.

Day 2 – A Peaceful Morning at Kainchi Dham Followed by the Scenic Beauty of Mukteshwar

The second day of the journey began early in the morning with fresh mountain air and a homemade breakfast at Himnandi Homestay. Since Kainchi Dham receives a large number of devotees throughout the day, we had already planned an early departure to help the family enjoy a peaceful darshan before the crowds increased.

The drive from Bhimtal to Kainchi Dham itself was beautiful. As the road passed through forests and small Kumaoni villages, everyone in the vehicle enjoyed the calm surroundings and changing mountain views. Conversations gradually became quieter as the family approached the temple.

When they reached the ashram, the atmosphere felt completely different from the busy towns below. Devotees patiently stood in the queue, volunteers managed everything with discipline, and the sound of temple bells created a peaceful environment. Instead of rushing through the visit, the family spent time sitting quietly inside the temple premises, offering prayers and simply enjoying the spiritual atmosphere. For many visitors, Kainchi Dham is more than a sightseeing destination. It is a place where people come with faith, gratitude and hope. Watching families, elderly devotees and young travellers praying together created a memorable experience that stayed with everyone throughout the journey.

If you are planning to include this sacred destination in your Kumaon trip, our Kainchi Dham Tour Package offers flexible itineraries that can easily be combined with Bhimtal, Mukteshwar and Nainital.

A Beautiful Drive Towards Mukteshwar

After completing the visit to Kainchi Dham, the journey continued towards Mukteshwar.

This stretch of road is one of the most enjoyable drives in Kumaon. As the vehicle gradually climbed higher into the mountains, dense pine forests, apple orchards, peaceful villages and distant Himalayan views accompanied the journey. Rather than treating the drive as travelling from one destination to another, the family enjoyed every stop along the way for photographs and short breaks.

On reaching Mukteshwar Mahadev Temple, the peaceful surroundings immediately stood out. Unlike crowded tourist places, the temple offered a calm environment where everyone could spend time comfortably while enjoying panoramic mountain views.

The family then walked towards Chauli Ki Jali, one of Mukteshwar’s most famous viewpoints. Standing on the rocky cliffs overlooking the valleys below became one of the highlights of the entire trip. The fresh mountain breeze, open Himalayan landscape and peaceful silence created memories that photographs can never fully capture.

Before returning to Bhimtal, everyone enjoyed tea from a small local café while admiring the beautiful scenery around them. Sometimes the simplest moments become the most memorable part of a holiday.

Travellers who wish to spend more time exploring this beautiful hill town can also consider our Mukteshwar Tour Package, which includes nearby attractions and a more relaxed sightseeing experience

Day 3 – A Relaxed Morning Exploring the Charm of Nainital

The final day of the journey was reserved for exploring the beautiful hill town of Nainital.

After breakfast, the family checked out from the homestay and began the short drive towards Nainital. Since vehicles are restricted around Mall Road during busy hours, our driver parked the Innova at the designated parking area. From there, the family enjoyed walking through the lively streets, which is honestly the best way to experience Nainital.

The morning weather was pleasant, and the town had slowly started coming alive with visitors exploring local shops, cafés and restaurants. The family spent time strolling along Mall Road, enjoying views of the beautiful Naini Lake and taking photographs together.

Some members chose to relax near the lakeside while others explored local handicraft shops and purchased souvenirs to take back home. Unlike a rushed sightseeing schedule, this free time allowed everyone to enjoy the destination in their own way.

Although three days may seem like a short trip, careful planning ensured that the family never felt hurried. Every destination was covered comfortably, and the journey remained enjoyable from beginning to end.

What Divya Ma’am Shared After Returning Home

It felt stress-free and enjoyable throughout. Thank you for making our trip so special and memorable. Looking forward to traveling with you again!”Reading such feedback reminds us that successful journeys are not just about hotels and vehicles. They are about creating experiences that families remember long after the trip has ended.

Why This Itinerary Worked So Well

Looking back at the journey, a few thoughtful decisions made a significant difference to the overall experience.

  • Staying in peaceful Bhimtal instead of crowded Nainital reduced unnecessary travel time.
  • A comfortable private Innova Crysta ensured relaxed travel throughout the tour.
  • An experienced local Kumaoni driver helped avoid traffic and suggested the best timings for sightseeing.
  • Only one hotel stay meant there was no daily packing and unpacking.
  • The itinerary balanced spirituality, nature and leisure without feeling rushed.
  • The tour was comfortable for families, senior citizens and first-time visitors to Kumaon.

Sometimes a well-planned three-day holiday creates better memories than trying to cover too many destinations in a limited time.

Travel Tips Before Planning a Similar Journey

The best time for this itinerary is from March to June and September to November.

  • Mobile connectivity is generally good, although network strength may vary in a few mountain stretches.
  • Start early for Kainchi Dham to avoid long queues during weekends and peak travel seasons.
  • Use the designated parking areas in Nainital and explore Mall Road on foot for the best experience.
