Kausani Tour Package – A Local’s Story of Coming Home with Complete Guide
Summary
My name is Arjun, and I am part of the Travelophila team. But before I became a trip planner, I was just a village boy from Kausani – the little hill town where mornings begin with the golden light touching Nanda Devi, Trishul and Panchachuli.
When guests ask, “Bhaiya, Kausani itna khaas kyun hai?” I always smile.
Because for me, Kausani is not just a destination.
It’s the smell of pine after rain, the temple bells in Baijnath, the first sip of hot chai while the Himalayas slowly appear out of the clouds.
This blog is my personal story of guiding a family from Delhi on our 4-day Kausani tour package (Delhi – Bhimtal – Kausani – Baijnath – Bhimtal – Delhi) – and also a complete travel guide written like a local would explain things sitting next to you in the car.

Why Kausani Feels Like “Apna Gaon” to Me
Kausani is a small town in Uttarakhand’s Kumaon region, sitting at around 1890 m above sea level. From here, on a clear day, you can see a 300+ km wide Himalayan panorama – it’s why Kausani is called the “Switzerland of India”.
But beyond the views, there’s a calm rhythm here:
Women walking with grass bundles on their heads.
Children shouting “namaste” when your car passes.
Tea gardens on the slopes, where time itself feels slower.
When we at Travelophila designed this Kausani tour package from Delhi, I wanted it to feel exactly like that – not rushed, not overly commercial. Just a peaceful 4 days, moving from lake to mountain, from temple to tea garden.

Day 1 – Delhi to Bhimtal: Leaving the Noise Behind
We start early from Delhi – usually around 3–4 AM – so that by breakfast time we’re already cruising past the plains, moving towards the hills.
The drive to Bhimtal is around 300–320 km, typically 6–8 hours by road depending on traffic.
By late morning or early afternoon, the air changes. Windows come down, the AC goes off. You start smelling pine trees and feeling that cool hill breeze.
First Evening at Bhimtal
By the time we check into our Bhimtal hotel, most guests are a little tired – and a lot excited.
After a short rest and tea, we usually go down to Bhimtal Lake:
Enjoy a boat ride – paddle, row or shikara-style boats are available.
Visit the small island in the middle of the lake, which has an aquarium/cafe depending on current operations.
Offer prayers at the Bhimeshwar Mahadev Temple near the lake.
In the evening, lights from the homes on the hillsides reflect in the still water. For many of my guests, this first quiet evening in Bhimtal is when they truly feel they have “left Delhi behind”.
Day 1 Highlights:
Scenic drive from Delhi to the Kumaon hills
Evening boating at Bhimtal Lake
Lakeside walk & temple visit
Night stay in a comfortable hotel in Bhimtal
Explore our Chopta Tungnath Chandrashila

Day 2 – Bhimtal to Kausani via Kainchi Dham: A Spiritual & Scenic Day
After breakfast, we check out from Bhimtal and drive towards Kainchi Dham, the famous ashram of Neem Karoli Baba, loved by devotees from all over the world.
Stop at Kainchi Dham
The ashram, surrounded by hills and trees, has a beautiful, spiritual silence. Many guests like to sit quietly here for a while – some pray for business growth, some for family peace, some just say thank you.
After darshan and prasad, we continue the drive towards Kausani. The road winds through forests and small villages, and slowly the valley opens.
Arrival in Kausani – The First Glimpse of the Himalayas
By afternoon, we reach Kausani and check into the hotel. Most good hotels here have Himalayan-facing rooms or terrace views. If the sky is clear, this is the moment when everyone falls silent:
Those snow peaks – Nanda Devi, Trishul, Panchachuli – standing tall like old guardians.
After some rest and tea, I usually take guests for local sightseeing in Kausani:
Anasakti Ashram (Gandhi Ashram): Where Mahatma Gandhi once stayed and wrote about the beauty of Kausani. It’s peaceful and has a small museum.
Kausani Tea Estate: Walk through the tea gardens and see how tea is grown; you can also buy local tea.
Viewpoints for Sunset: There are several spots where we can watch the sun set behind the Himalayas, painting the sky orange and pink.
At night, if the sky is clear, I often point guests to Kausani Planetarium / observatory for a stargazing session – many are surprised how bright the stars look here.
Day 2 Highlights:
Visit to Kainchi Dham Ashram
Scenic mountain drive to Kausani
Local sightseeing – Gandhi Ashram, Tea Estate, viewpoints
Optional stargazing at planetarium/observatory
Night stay in Kausani

Day 3 – Kausani to Baijnath Temple to Bhimtal: Temples, River & Return to the Lake
On Day 3, we wake up early. I always request guests to step out with a cup of tea when the first light hits the peaks – that view alone is worth the entire trip.
After breakfast, we check out and drive towards Baijnath.
Baijnath Temple – Where Time Stands Still
About 16–20 km from Kausani, on the banks of the Gomti River, lies Baijnath, an ancient temple complex dedicated to Lord Shiva, with multiple stone temples built in Nagara style.
Here you can:
Walk slowly among beautifully carved old stone temples
Offer prayers to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati
See the serene Gomti river flowing right next to the temple
Feed the fishes (fishing is not allowed, but feeding chana is common)
As a child, I used to sit on these temple steps with my grandfather. Now, standing there with Travelophila guests, I feel like I am sharing a piece of my own memory.
Back to Bhimtal – Evening by the Lake
From Baijnath, we drive back towards Bhimtal (around 140–150 km, 4–5 hours approx.).
By evening, you’re back at the calm waters of Bhimtal Lake. Some guests like a second round of boating; some prefer to just sit quietly by the lake with chai and pakode.
Day 3 Highlights:
Sunrise Himalayan view in Kausani
Visit to ancient Baijnath Temple & Gomti river
Scenic drive back to Bhimtal
Evening free time at Bhimtal Lake
Night stay in Bhimtal

Day 4 – Bhimtal to Delhi: Carrying the Hills Back with You
After breakfast, we check out, take a last look at the lake, and start driving back to Delhi.
This is usually a quieter drive. People scroll through photos, share reels, and sometimes ask me softly:
“Bhaiya, yahan ka sukoon wapas mil sakta hai kya?”
And I always say, “Jab chahein, hum Travelophila wale aapko fir se pahaad le aayenge.”
Day 4 Highlights:
Breakfast in Bhimtal
Scenic downhill drive
Drop at Delhi with lifetime memories

Best Time to Visit Kausani
Because I grew up here, people often ask me the same question:
“Best time kab ka hai Kausani ka?”
Honestly, Kausani is beautiful all year, but different seasons give different experiences:
March to June (Summer):
Pleasant weather, ideal for sightseeing, tea garden walks, small treks and clear Himalayan views.
July to September (Monsoon):
Lush green valleys, clouds floating in the hills, very romantic – but occasional heavy rains can affect travel plans.
October to February (Winter):
Crisp cold air, chance of snowfall in peak winter, and some of the clearest Himalayan views of the year.
For most travellers doing a Delhi to Kausani tour package, the best window is usually:
March–June and October–February
Top Places to Visit in & Around Kausani
When you’re in Kausani, you can cover many beautiful spots:
1. Anasakti (Gandhi) Ashram
A peaceful ashram where Mahatma Gandhi once stayed and wrote about Kausani’s beauty. There’s a small museum and a quiet prayer hall.
2. Kausani Tea Estate
Rolling green tea gardens on the slopes. You can walk among the bushes and buy local tea directly from the source.
3. Rudradhari Falls & Caves
About 10–12 km from Kausani on the Almora road, it’s a short trek through paddy fields and forest to reach a waterfall and small temple in a cave-like setting.
4. Baijnath Temple
Ancient stone temples on the banks of the Gomti River, about 16–20 km from Kausani, perfect for a half-day trip (which we’ve already included in your itinerary).
5. Kausani Planetarium / Observatory
Great for stargazing, especially in winter when the skies are crystal clear.
6. Local Shawl & Handicraft Stores
Kausani is known for handwoven woollen shawls and local products. Good quality, reasonably priced – and helps local families.
Things to Do in Bhimtal During This Tour
Since you stay two nights in Bhimtal, you get good time to enjoy this quieter cousin of Nainital:
Boating on Bhimtal Lake – pedal, row or shikara boats
Visit the island (aquarium/cafe) in the middle of the lake
Bhimeshwar Mahadev Temple near the lake
Easy walks around the lake and in the surrounding lanes
Short treks/hikes to nearby viewpoints & Hidimba Parvat
Bhimtal is less crowded than Nainital, so families and couples find it more peaceful.
